Green Way is a vegetarian bar where you can find plenty of healthy meals, several of which are gluten free. I visited the restaurant in September 2015 and I’d like share with you my experience.
Facts about Green Way
Green Way is a part of franchise network in Poland. The chain has only one restaurant in Krakow. Here are some facts about the restaurant from my lunchtime visit:
- The restaurant is not officially certified by Polish Coeliac Society
- 2 gluten free options for lunch
- 2-3 gluten free options for breakfast
- No gluten free dessert
- “Gluten free” identifiers in the menu
- Children’s high chair available
- Located a 5-minute walk from main square
- Wi-fi available
What gluten free options are available?
During lunch or dinner this restaurant offers diners two options. I chose vegetables in curry sauce. This dish comes with a choice of two sides, either whole grain rice or couscous (the latter contains gluten). After a brief discussion I was offered buckwheat as a substitute to the couscous.
I like the idea of having a gluten free breakfast at Green Way, but it wouldn’t be a typical breakfast. The breakfast menu includes a warm dish of rice with apples or two salads. Unfortunately, no gluten free bread is available.
Gluten free friendliness
As mentioned in the “facts” above, this restaurant is not officially certified by Polish Coeliac Society. However, the Krakow restaurant has gluten free meals officially marked in their menu.
I have visited this place twice, and each time my experience with the crew was different. The first time they were not interested in discussing how the food is prepared. Their assurance that my food would not be cross contaminated was vague at best. My second visit was much more positive: the waitstaff spent sufficient time to talk and explain the details, to check a few things with the chef in the kitchen, and to finally reassure me that I could feel secure. They claim that they regularly have guests who request gluten free dishes. So far they have received no complaints.
Gluteno.eu lists and reviews establishments that claim to serve gluten free. Gluteno.eu cannot guarantee restaurants will not cross-contaminate your dish during preparation. Gluteno.eu assumes no responsibility for potential health issues caused by any restaurant reviewed in this website.
Please note that you, as a person requiring a gluten free diet, take full responsibility for deciding what restaurant you chose to eat at. It is up to you, gentle reader, whether or not you trust the restaurant staff to do everything required to prepare your gluten free meal.
